Smart & Final will have Jennie-O Fresh Ground Turkey on sale next week! Ground turkey doesn't go on sale very often so I always stock up when I see it for a good price. I love cooking with ground turkey because it's low in fat and can easily take the place of ground beef in most recipes. With ground turkey, I can make family meals with a little less guilt knowing that I'm giving them a tasty, healthier version of their classic favorites. Here's a simple recipe that will please even the pickiest burger lovers.
Barbecue Feta Turkey Burgers
Prep time: 40 minutes
Cook time: 15-20 minutes
2.5 pounds ground turkey
1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
2 egg whites
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tbsp basil
1 tsp ground ancho chile pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp ground black pepper
3 sweet onions
Slice the onions thinly and caramelize by cooking in a skillet on medium-low for about 30 minutes, stirring and adding a few tablespoons of water every 5 minutes.
Mix all ingredients for the turkey burger patties in a large bowl.
Form the ground turkey mixture into eight patties.
Heat a grill to medium and cook the turkey burgers approximately 8-10 minutes on each side.
Apply mayonnaise to both sides of the buns and serve the patty topped with feta, caramelized onions and about a tablespoon of barbecue sauce.
