As a ravenous carb fiend, Bisquick is one of my go-to kitchen staples. I use it for biscuits, pancakes, waffles, dumplings, strawberry shortcake…I could probably concoct a Bisquick variation of just about any recipe in my files. Bisquick is an easy, inexpensive alternative to buying pre-made rolls or dough, but it IS more expensive than buying flour, salt, and other baking ingredients to make a recipe from scratch.
The perfect happy medium between “from scratch” and “out of the box”? Try this DIY Bisquick Recipe that a friend passed along. When I’m running low on Bisquick, I whip up a batch of this and make my favorite Bisquick recipes without anyone knowing the difference.
DIY Bisquick Recipe

- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Mix. Use in place of Bisquick in your favorite Bisquick recipes.
If you’re as big of a Bisquick fanatic as I am, you probably already know that Bisquick makes their own line of recipe books for everything from breakfast to dinner, appetizers and dessert. These cookbooks are some of my favorite for mid-week, easy crowd-pleasers.
Another quick Bisquick hint: if a recipe calls for milk, substitute buttermilk or heavy whipping cream instead. These are the secret to my family’s to-die-for Bisquick pancakes and biscuits.
