I had back-to-back meetings in Santa Monica a couple weeks ago, one at night and one in the morning. I thought it would be genius to try one of those vacation rental booking sites to stay in the area overnight instead of driving to a relative’s place half an hour away. Looking through the listings the night before, there was a spot listed as a “quaint and homey RV.” Sounds adorable, right?
Yeah, not so much. I envisioned some sort of hipster backyard Airstream. That was definitely NOT the situation here.
I wound up crashing at my brother-in-law’s place.
That, however, is actually not what the title of this post is alluding to. My first meeting in Santa Monica was for my initial procedure with our new partner, UltraShape. The intent was to take my fat percentage down and flush all those lipids out of my body.
Get it? Down and out in Santa Monica.
I’m so clever.
As a little refresher, the UltraShape procedure involves a series of ultrasound waves eliminating fat cells in specific areas. The company reached out awhile back, and I was skeptical of the whole thing until I did some research and saw that it’s actually been quite successful for some people.
So here we are.
Dr. Behroozan made me feel completely at ease from the moment I walked in the door. He has a warm, comforting demeanor and he’s funny as heck. It doesn’t hurt that he’s also a fellow UCLA grad (go Bruins, fight fight fight!).
The whole thing took less than an hour and was completely painless, with Dr. Behroozan and his assistant taking measurements and marking off my fat areas with a pen – such an ego boost, let me tell you – and then waving their ultrasound machine over my belly. They held it on each area for several moments, then it would beep and they’d move on to the next spot.
I was so stoked about how easy it all was, Kiel and I went out for sushi afterwards.
I’m not even kidding.
At my morning meeting at Annenberg House the next day, I swear I felt like I fit in with this LA crowd a bit better than usual.
As far as my initial thoughts, there’s not much to report yet. Perhaps a little change, but it’s hard to tell this early on. Part of me genuinely feels like the procedure is a good first step to bring me back from the brink of a really unhealthy place. On the other hand, it’s the week after Halloween and I’m PMSing and bloat-y and all I really want to do is stuff my face with a Kit Kat.
One thing is very clear: my hair and skin are both getting rapidly whiter as the season rolls on. Check back in another couple weeks after my second procedure for another update!
