There’s nothing like ice cream with hot fudge sauce, but the jarred sauce at the store is ridiculously expensive. I make homemade hot fudge sauce from a recipe myself at a fraction of the cost – and it’s way better than the store-bought stuff!
Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce Recipe
1 cup butter
1/3 cup unsweetend cocoa powder (I use Hershey’s cocoa powder)
3 cups sugar
1 (12 ounce can) evaporated milk
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla extract
Mix butter, cocoa powder, sugar, evaporated milk and salt in medium saucepan.
Bring to a boil over medium heat. Add chocolate chips and boil 7 more minutes over medium heat, stirring frequently.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Blend using an immersion blender or stand blender.
Serve over ice cream. Store any remaining hot fudge sauce in the refrigerator, reheating over the stove or in the microwave, stirring at 1 minute intervals. Homemade hot fudge sauce makes excellent gifts in small tins or cans (think Easter or Mother’s Day!).
