Christmas is over and the egg nog's gone, but you still have a bunch of relatives around to entertain until New Year's. Don't worry, we've got the perfect recipe for the season. Hot buttered rum sundaes!
This is actually one of my favorite times of the year: the lull between the holidays. Scoop up a big bowl of this tastiness, gather around a toasty fireplace and play board games until the wee hours.
Cheers to you!
- 1 Tbsp rum
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- Beat rum, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves together and bring to a low bowl over medium heat.
- Pour over ice cream and serve.
Simply simmer equal parts rum, butter and brown sugar together with some cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. If you have a wood-burning stove, you can even put the pot on top and let it heat up naturally, sending Christmas-y scents all throughout the house.
The caramel-y concoction quickly hardens when it hits a cold scoop, making this old-fashioned ice cream pick an awesomely boozy upgrade to our childhood fave. It's a perfectly cool treat whether it's December, January, June or July.
So go on, drink to your health. Or to a new year, or winter vacation. Or just to a tasty treat that warms the heart and brings a smile to the faces of your loved ones.
How does your family normally celebrate in the time between Christmas and New Year's Eve?
