Is it just me, or are “husband habits” one of those things that every wife inevitably has to get used to? The quirks in our marriage aren’t anything obnoxious, just…weird. Nate insists that when we’re preparing to wash dishes, the silverware has to be put in one side of the sink, apart from everything else. He also insists on sitting in the chair facing towards the door in restaurants. Like we’re going to be ambushed at any moment! Another of Nate’s weird “husband habits” is that he’ll run around putting down the toilet seat lids if guests leave them up. I definitely can’t complain because I’m right on board with that one, but I’ve never seen a guy so focused on an orderly bathroom.
And his weirdest: pausing movies to “explain.” Really? I understand if it’s some historical war flick and I’m not up on the details, but he’ll pause When Harry Met Sally to see if I “get” the cultural references. I can’t really complain, though, because he’s actually willing to watch romantic comedies with me. Chick flicks are a-okay in our house (as long as there’s no cheating…he has a serious problem watching betrayal acted out on screen and inevitably ends up winding at the TV). But he’ll actually hang out with me and watch Meryl Streep or whatever other iconic love movie actress I want to see. And I totally love him for that. Next up in theaters, we’re checking out Hope Springs.
