We're getting down to the nitty gritty details, people. We've finally added some living room accents and this house is starting to feel like a home.

I'm sure you all remember our Oompa Loompa Orange living room, right? How could you forget? We quickly toned down those walls the first week we moved in with a fresh coat of paint.

Better, but still kind of blah. We snagged a pretty rug at a discount to help tie the room together shortly after this, but it still felt rather stark.

So, I went on a little home update spree for the living room accents that this place was so desperately crying out for! I bought a couple pieces at Target and as I was making my way up the driveway with my haul, it occurred to me that I meant to grab the gray and white paint from the shed for another home project (more on that later). Long story short, I went a little overboard and wound up painting the fireplace while I was at it. I used a technique called “ragging,” with white brushed haphazardly over the gray. I LOVE it. Nate's warming up to it. He wasn't too thrilled about me taking on another project (stuff like this keeps me up until the wee hours of the morning until I complete it), but he seems happy with the results.

With the fireplace in order, we hung this multi-frame piece over our corner chair. I like living room accents like this that give people something to look at and serve as a discussion point. One of my favorite living room accents that has come along with us through no less than three homes now is this little branch that actually served as one of the centerpieces at our wedding.

This here, though, THIS is by far the favorite piece of the room. Nate and I instantly fell in love with this big, bold clock from the Target Threshold line. It's over two feet in diameter and really has a tendency to pull guests over to this previously-neglected corner of the room. I can envision this becoming a cherished family piece, like a grandparents' cuckoo clock or those wooden ducks. You truly can't see one of those things without conjuring up fond memories of a loved one's living room, can you? One day our boys will see a great big clock somewhere and they'll think back to this living room and smile.
