I get asked pretty frequently what a typical day looks like for me as a “mommy blogger,” and how I balance home and work life. And then there’s the REAL burning question on everyone’s minds: can this mommy blogger thing actually make any money? I sat down with NBC a couple months ago here at the house and had an open discussion on the topic of marrying my passion for writing/marketing with my life as a mom.
You can see the whole segment here on one of the affiliate channels. The segment got delayed for awhile (more pressing news like hurricanes popped up…dang national disasters keep cramping my style) and I was SO excited to see it pop up on the local channel here in San Diego a couple weeks ago. I was absolutely floored when it got syndicated out across the nation. Wow.
I want to send a huge thank you to NBC for such an honest portrayal of life as a mommy blogger. We all know I have pretty much ZERO filter, so they probably could have made me look like a crazy person if they wanted to. And huge props to Consumer Bob. He rocks my socks! I also loved that they featured fellow mommy blogger Katie from La Jolla Mom. Katie and I have crossed paths a lot working side-by-side on various projects and I love her take on luxury travel and lifestyle. Our lives are so different yet in many ways, so very similar…just goes to show you that no industry fits into a neat little representative box.
Does this Mommy Blogger thing actually PAY?
Conclusion: I’m not getting rich quick, but with determination and hard work, becoming a mommy blogger can be a great way to help support the family. My marketing background played a huge part in easing my transition to this work-from-home career, and a lot of my money comes from other sources I contribute to and my work as a campaign manager, with the blog serving as my primary platform for unique partnerships.
