I’m a budget-driven shopper (which is why I check circulars like the Walgreens weekly ad religiously), but I’m also compelled by a few other things. Stores that give me special perks for being a member – like bonus points or register rewards – are golden in my book. I like being recognized as a good customer and it makes me even more loyal when I’m rewarded for going to the same store again and again. Customer service is also key. When my pharmacist knows my name and asks how the baby’s doing every time I checkout, it sticks in my memory. Another thing I like is being offered sneak peeks of deals or getting special members-only shopping hours. Everyone wants to feel like they’re “in the club.” Lastly, I want to do all of this and minimize my impact on the environment. I’m a reusable bag-toting, online-shopping fiend.
Can you tell that I have strong opinions on the matter? My marketing background has made me a bit of a shopping snob. I’ll admit that I have annoyingly high standards (Nate sure wouldn’t disagree with me there), but I get downright giddy when companies get it right. With their new online weekly ad, Walgreens is definitely doing it right.
I first discovered the Walgreens online weekly ad when we moved to our new place. For some reason, the Walgreens weekly ad doesn’t get delivered to our new address (along with a host of my other favorite store ads). Tragedy. On the bright side, though, this will actually help me with my goal to minimize paper and use online circulars more. So I hopped on the interweb and found that Walgreens has a brand new, fancy pants, deluxe online weekly ad that’s even BETTER than the paper one I used to receive. You can read all about the updates on their website. My favorite features are:
- Sign up to receive the weekly ad via email, and you’ll get a sneak peek delivered on Fridays AND a $5 coupon for signing up
- The online and mobile circulars feature hundreds of additional in-store offers, online exclusives and “bonus buys.”
- Coupons are now grouped together by category on easy-to-find pages
- Online ads feature easy social media sharing via Twitter and Facebook
I’ve also started using the mobile app and love it. My pharmacy texts me when refills are due, I can scan my prescription for a refill and even order photo prints from my iPhone. Also, they have web pickup at select stores so you can shop online and pick it up later, or they can ship directly to your door for free with free in-store returns when you place an online order of $25 or more.
This week, they had all the essentials on sale. We got some good snack food, nail polish, batteries, baby items and our favorite toilet paper. Yes, we have a favorite toilet paper. Somebody please tell me we’re not the only ones?
