Tomorrow is World Oceans Day! We celebrated a bit early by taking Some Boy over to Fiesta Island today. He was a bit skeptical of the water at first, but thought it was absolutely hilarious when Nate swam around him like a shark and buried his toes in sand. Fiesta Island used to be kind of dirty, but the place has cleaned up a lot since the city banned alcohol from the public beach.
On Saturday, Rubio’s is honoring the sea as a source of inspiration for over 30 years by hosting a beach party as part of a month-long celebration in honor of World Oceans Day. They’re inviting the public to come out for a day of beach-side festivities with Ralph Rubio, including complimentary surf lessons, bocce ball tournaments, sand castle building contests, face painting and badminton. Of course, the Rubio’s taco truck will be there serving up fan favorite tacos! A beach cleanup will be held at the end of the party, where the Rubio’s team and interested party goers can help clean up the beach with trash bags and other supplies. The family and I will be at the event, soaking up the sun and helping celebrate World Oceans Day with this iconic San Diego business.
Rubios celebrates World Oceans Day! Saturday, June 9, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. South Cardiff State Beach – Seaside Reef (South Coast Highway 101; between San Elijo and Solana Beach).
Will you be there? If you don’t live in San Diego, I’d love to hear how your community celebrates World Oceans Day (or however else you’re kicking off your summer beach fun!).
