Last week, we went up north to visit our friends who just had their first baby! I can't imagine how hectic it would be to give birth in the middle of the holiday season. We decided to take up some Christmas ornaments from Kmart to spruce up our pals' place up a bit for the holidays since we figured they might be focused on other things (like diapers, a nursery, bottles…all that fun stuff). We were going for some easy festivity that would make Jeremy and Crystal smile when they brought home their bundle of joy, and not something that would add stress to their life when they eventually need to take it down! Here's are some of the easy Christmas decorating ideas we came up with.
Sticking bows on things like curtain hangers, cabinet doors or the backs of chairs is an easy Christmas decorating idea that I picked up from my grandma. Her house always looks like a big present just waiting to be unwrapped during the holidays.
Draping garland in unexpected places is a nice touch, and so simple.
Glass balls placed in varying containers take just a few minutes, but really adds an upscale seasonal feel. I liked the way the candlelight reflected off of them while we were gathered around watching movies.
More ornaments in containers. I really liked these sparkly stars and found that they made a fun display all piled up together.
They had this fun miniature house that we “festivized” with a tree skirt, nutcracker guard men at the door and a star on top. We have similar spaces in our own home that we add lights and ornaments to for a holiday feel.
Jeremy and Crystal were really excited when they walked in the door. I'm honestly always a little disappointed when I'm done decorating my own home because I love doing it so much! I need more space. “Decorating it forward,” as we've officially dubbed this project, was a really fun activity and one that I think just might become a holiday tradition in the family.
