The Avengers movie is officially releasing on DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow! We're huge Marvel fans around here and collect all of the movies, so this is a BIG deal in our house. We're
brainwashing instilling Some Boy with a love of all things superhero from an early age, and decided that an Incredible Hulk party would be the perfect way to gear up for the new movie release. I actually hadn't seen The Incredible Hulk yet, and I was pretty clueless about his whole back story when I saw The Avengers in theaters.
Incredible Hulk Party
Naturally, I started with the food and worried first about dessert. For our Incredible Hulk Party, I used green dye in vanilla pudding to create “Hulk Smash.” It was a hit.
You can't have a superhero party without some Marvel-ous pizza!
I spied this adorable Avengers themed Marketside pizza at Walmart, which is a steal at less than $9 for an extra large. Naturally, I got the Hulk one to go with our Incredible Hulk Party. Walmart even has an Augmented Reality app that I used to unlock special Avengers experiences by scanning Avengers signage throughout the store. It made the shop experience fun, like a little scavenger hunt.
There were several ways to interact with the posters throughout the store. My favorite was a survey that helps shoppers determine which Avenger they are. I'm Thor, which totally makes sense. Because he's awesome. And so am I.
Back to the food: I naturally included some pre-dinner snacks to tide the family over. I've been making a habit of setting out veggies before meals lately, and everyone gobbles them up.
Some Boy's been teething like crazy so he opted for a sippy cup to go with his pizza. The dude just wants milk ALL the time. The timing of our Incredible Hulk Party was perfect, as Some Boy has started sitting on the couch on his own recently. He's always so proud of himself after he clambers up there and plops down like a big boy.
I found the most perfect Avengers poster at Walmart with an awesome shot of the Hulk for our Incredible Hulk Party. Naturally, I accidentally left it in the cart at checkout. Rgh. So instead, I improvised the decorations by making a party banner with construction paper, painter's tape and Avengers stickers. This was so easy and turned out really adorable.
I bought Some Boy a Hulk outfit, but he was NOT feeling the gloves. We tried to coax him into wearing them for about a minute before giving up because, well, you wouldn't like this baby when he's angry!
The guys, on the other hand, had a blast smashing their fists together over…and over…and over again. I also tried to find Avengers-themed shirts for everyone. Uncle Brian got Captain America. Sadly, Walmart didn't carry any Marvel shirts in Nate's 3XL size, so I improvised again and got him a werewolf shirt. That's sort of superhero-ish…right? Nate didn't seem too thrilled about it.
Yes, I got the Punisher.
We found some adorable superhero-themed party plates and supplies at Walmart for our Incredible Hulk Party (that's where I got the stickers for the party banner, too). I was thrilled to find that they carried all sorts of superhero books for all ages. Some Boy got to read this Mighty Avengers World of Reading book before bedtime. It was an awesome way for him to learn all about the superheroes.
The rest of us got a sneak preview of the new Avengers comic book that comes as part of the exclusive blu-ray/DVD/novel combo pack at Walmart. It was definitely more reminiscent of traditional graphic novels, and the guys got a kick out of reliving their childhood comic book days.
