Now that Some Boy is here, I'm realizing how dang fast kids grow! He's already flown through dozens of outfits, and he isn't even three months old yet. To save myself money and time so I'm not constantly having to go to the mall to find clothes for his next stage, I like to stock up on gently-used clothes. I get a lot from online sites like Zearly and ThredUp, but there's really nothing like seeing the outfit in person to get a feel for the quality and size. Many children's boutiques are overpriced, and I've found that I get the most bang for my buck by shopping at consignment sales, community garage sales and school or church fundraisers. You can find the best ones by asking friends, looking on local community boards, and even checking out Craigslist. Usually newspapers will cover big consignment events, and you may see flyers for swap meets posted around children's activity centers or parks.

If you happen to live in San Diego, my favorite consignment sale is coming up soon. Trunk Treasures summer consignment sale offers “upscale resale” at an amazing price. I love that all the clothes are well taken care of and washed, so I don't feel like I'm picking through someone's leftovers. This is the spot to find bargain clothes (and toys!) for kids without all the hassle. There's stuff for kids from infants to teens and even moms. Their next sale is July 29th– August 1st at Mon Petit Chateau’s mommy café at 861 Harold Place, Suite 204 in Eastlake. You can check out all the details at the Trunk Treasures website. And if you have some extra clothes laying around that your kids have outgrown, I highly recommend that you consider joining as a consignor!
