I've been watching Shameless a lot lately, and I have to admit that I occasionally find myself admitting, “I've SO been there.” The show portrays the ridiculous situations that six kids find themselves in under the (absent) supervision of an alcoholic dad, and it's funny to watch the whole family try to extract themselves out of less than ideal circumstances. After all, who hasn't faked their own death or kidnapped a granny at some point in their lives?
One of my favorite games to play back in college was called, “I Never.” Sort of a “truth only” spin-off of Truth or Dare, I Never starts with a bunch of people sitting in a circle with all ten fingers up. Each person then goes around the room and says a true statement about themselves starting with, “I Never.” Anyone else in the room who has done that thing puts a finger down (there is also a drinking version of this game that involves each person taking a drink if they've done the thing that the person who has the floor has never done. This is just one of the many, many things I learned at UCLA). The person to put all their fingers down first loses – or wins the “most daring” badge, I suppose – depending on how you look at it. You can imagine the weird stuff you learn about your friends. Shameless has created their own version of I Never using things that the family in the show has done.
