One thing that consistently astounds me about California is the warmth and individuality of the people here. As a whole, us California folks spend a lot of time in our cars and it seems we're always in a rush to get somewhere.

But when we stop and take the time to enjoy each other's company we can learn from each other, connect and really grow as people. It's so important to slow down and experience the bond of community.

I told you all about the community of Valencia last weekend and how they're opening up their newest neighborhood, Charleston at River Village. They had a fun fair last weekend and everyone's saying that, in a word, it was awesome.

There were games and crafts and music galore.

Hey look, it's fellow blogger Morgan from The 818! See, SoCal really can feel like a small place with familiar faces and intimate community when you take the time to get to know those around you and connect with them.

Families enjoyed checking out the latest hot spot in Valencia, named by Money Magazine as one of the top 100 places to live in America. The town has schools that rank in the top 10% of California, so it's a big draw for new couples with little ones. They also enjoy the many parks and trails in the area as well as personally-constructed homes with EnergyStar features and sustainable construction.

I was inspired to take time this weekend to get take the kids around our little community. Stay tuned for pictures from our own neighborhood, complete with a parade and neighborhood eats.

What's your favorite thing about your town?
