When Suvie asked us if we'd like to give their cool little kitchen robot a try, I was in a place where I felt like I was just getting back into a solid kitchen routine and could use some help re-establishing a meal prep groove. Our family has been getting settled – once again – into a new home, sorting out storage and weekly plans as Nate and I both delve into fun new career opportunities. The timing was impeccable, and the experience with Suvie has been excellent for us. I think it can truly be a game changer for small to large families with all sorts of varying schedules, and I'm excited to share it with you!

Let's dive into the wonders of the Suvie machine, exploring its features, benefits, and why it's a game-changer for home cooks everywhere.

What is Suvie?

Suvie is a state-of-the-art kitchen robot that combines multiple cooking functions into one compact device AND offers a meal subscription service to take the heavy lifting entirely out of your hands. It's designed to remove the hassle of meal preparation by automating the cooking process. Whether you're a busy professional, a parent juggling multiple responsibilities, or someone who just loves technology, Suvie can make your life easier!

How Does Suvie Work?

Suvie is equipped with advanced cooking technology that allows it to perform various cooking functions simultaneously. What sets it apart from other kitchen devices is that it can both COOL and COOK, meaning you can arrange cold food in there, then go about your business and come home to a fully-prepared meal. It's like a combination refrigerator-and-oven that's connected to WiFi.

If you set a meal to be ready at a certain time but then realize you'll be delayed longer than you expected at work, you can just go in the app and reschedule it for later. Didn't plan ahead and get food in there in advance? No worries – you can pop food in and cook immediately, just like a regular oven.

It's a little bit difficult to describe because there really is nothing to compare it to – Suvie is truly a kitchen robot that you can control remotely!

Setting Up Your Suvie Upon Arrival

Getting started with Suvie is a breeze. There's a water compartment on the Suvie (I believe this is used both for cooling and for steaming functions) and you simply make sure it's filled to the appropriate spot before firing up the oven. Connect the machine to WiFi using the app, and then get cooking.

Two Ways to Prep Meals: DIY or Subscription Meals

There are two distinct ways to cook a meal with Suvie: either order their subscription-based meals and let the machine do all the work (in as little as 25 minutes), or prepare meals with your own purchased ingredients / using recipes in the Suvie app and set the machine to roast, bake, broil, sous vide, slow cook or steam your food.

There's a handy Guide section in the app that has references for what settings are best to cook everything from chicken breasts or sirloin to broccoli and asparagus. Suvie also releases recipes in a portion of the app called Recette Magazine, and it's chock full of breakfasts, appetizers, main meals, desserts and snacks. Recette Magazine is a free publication that can also be accessed on the internet through Suvie's blog, which I appreciate because I'm not a fan of doing all my meal planning from my phone. Sometimes I just want a good, old-fashioned printed recipe card.

If you opt to order subscription meals, those arrive frozen and you simply place the pre-bagged ingredients into a stainless steel Suvie pan (these are about 1/3 the size of traditional oven sheets), then scan the meal card to select your recipe, and let the kitchen robot do the rest. Meal pricing varies by meal and how many you order, but I found it to be much healthier and a bit cheaper than ordering delivery.

Either route you opt for, you can schedule your meals to be ready exactly when you need them, making it a true set-it-and-forget-it device.

Benefits of Using Suvie

Time-Saving Convenience

One of the biggest advantages of using Suvie is the time it saves. Traditional cooking often requires constant monitoring, but with Suvie, you can set your meal to cook and go about your day. Whether you're at work, running errands, or spending time with family, you can trust that Suvie is taking care of dinner.

Healthy Cooking Made Easy

Suvie makes it easy to prepare healthy meals. Its steaming and sous vide functions help retain the nutrients and natural flavors of your ingredients. Plus, with its built-in meal planner and nutritional information, you can easily keep track of your dietary goals.

Sanity-Saving for Busy Parents

This seems like a weird heading, but I can't stress enough what a relief it is to know that we have healthy meals ready at the drop of a hat. I already mentioned that Nate and I have been going through some career transitions that have our schedules super hectic lately. On top of that, he and I both ran into some health issues in the last couple of months that saw us BOTH having emergency surgeries back-to-back. I've learned that crazy times like this are inevitable and you can't always be as prepared as you'd like to be. The things that come to the rescue at those stressful points are 1) organizational tools at home and 2) a helpful community that can fill in the gaps.

If we didn't have family nearby and a stockpile of Suvie meals in the freezer, I frankly don't know what we would have done!

Pictured above is a Sausage and Shrimp Jambalaya Suvie meal that I made for Nate while I was relegated to a liquid diet for a short period, and I'd already fed the boys chicken nuggets since they were hungry and Nate was getting home late. It certainly isn't ideal to be making three separate meals for six people, but in this case it saved me a headache and helped the husband avoid driving through for fast food, which is what he would have done if this wasn't in the freezer.

In contrast to the emergency utility of using the Suvie as a single-meal cooker when things go awry, my preferred use case is to utilize the Suvie to prep and cook protein/meat for the whole family, pairing that with veggies + rice or a quick pasta dish. The Suvie Starch Cooker looks very promising for those looking to employ this strategy, too! For folks like me whose brain tends to divide meals up into a protein, a starch, and a veg, it's the perfect way to take the stress out of cooking – especially for larger groups.

Exploring Suvie's Many Features In-Depth

Multi-Zone Cooking

One of Suvie's standout features is its ability to cook different components of your meal in separate zones, each with its own temperature and cooking method. This ensures that everything is cooked perfectly and ready to serve at the same time. I find that this is a really good solution for smaller families or single people, while larger families like ours will probably use both levels of the Suvie kitchen Robot for protein and supplement with cold side dishes, bread, salad, or items cooke in another manner.

Smart Scheduling

Suvie's smart scheduling feature allows you to plan your meals days in advance. You can load your ingredients into the machine, select your cooking time, and Suvie will have your meal ready when you are. It's perfect for busy weekdays or special occasions. I like to plan many meals at a time, and when implementing this in the kitchen I've found that it's best for me to instantly run a Cooldown cycle to get it cold enough to store the next meal in it so I keep the momentum going. Without the Cooldown cycle, if you try to put tomorrow's meal in immediately, the machine will be too hot and will essentially cook your next meal straight away instead of keeping it at an appropriate temperature for the future.

I get the Cooldown cycle going right after our dinner is ready and let it run while we eat, then by the time I'm done putting everything in the dishwasher it's usually ready to get the next meal in there and scheduled out for tomorrow.

Easy Cleanup

Cleaning up after cooking can be a chore, but Suvie makes it easy. Most of its components are dishwasher safe, and the device itself is designed for easy maintenance. Spend less time scrubbing pots and pans and more time enjoying a meal together!
