Welcome to our second post in the Movies with Kids series!
Go to the movies with kids on “off” days
Like Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. This tip comes to you courtesy of my childhood.
You know how a lot of families head to their local Regal cinemas on Friday night or Saturday afternoon? It’s often reserved for a weekend outing. For me, however, movie time was almost always a surprise afterschool activity. My mom or grandma would pick me and my sister up and head straight on over to the theater. “We’re going to learn about African animals today by watching The Lion King!” Okay, it was a stretch, but they’d treat it as an educational activity and we sure as heck never argued with them.
The big benefit to seeing movies with kids on weekdays is that theaters are much emptier, so it’s a good training ground for movies with kids who may fidget. Less crowds also mean you can sit pretty much wherever you want, and the chance of a movie being sold out is minimal.
And did you know that not all movies premiere on a Friday? Sometimes (for whatever reason unbeknownst to me), studios will release their movies on a Wednesday. You can strategically schedule movies with kids for those mid-week release dates and they’ll feel extra-special that they got to see the film before most of their friends!
Finally, a lot of theaters offer midweek specials. Regal LA Live hosts $7 Tuesdays. Any movie, any time on Tuesday. $7. That’s over half off! So you can save that extra cash for another activity. Or see even MORE movies with kids. Whatever.
