Chocolate. Bacon. Chocolate bacon? Oh yes. This combination seems so wrong and yet it tastes sooooo right. The chocolate bacon trend has taken over on Pinterest, Food Network, and in our very own kitchen.
One of the things I like most about chocolate bacon recipes is that there's a combination to please almost everyone. Except vegetarians. And vegans. And people who don't eat pork for religious reasons or whatever. There are sweet, dessert-y combinations and bite-sized appetizer options. Main courses with chocolatey mole sauce and savory chili with deep, tangy flavors.
Chocolate Bacon for All
I developed a taste for chocolate bacon when I decided to make bacon hearts covered in chocolate. Somewhat purist, I know. The love affair grew from there as I got more daring, adding bits of bacon and dark chocolate shavings into various sweet recipes and finally moving into sauces and decorative chocolate bacon confections.
The unlikely pairing makes frequent appearances at my kitchen table.

Go ahead, eat your heart out. Feast your eyes on decadent barks, cookies and ice cream slathered in smoky applewood. Add some chocolate bacon flavor to a cheesy sandwich or liven up breakfast with chocolate bacon waffles, pancakes and donuts. Mix the chocolate bacon pairing with some bananas and peanut butter for a new take on Elvis' cherished favorites. Scones, breads, layered bars. Truffles and pie. Chocolate bacon even makes an appearance in some “good for you” picks without gluten or dairy. On their own, the two might even be considered paleo.
Excuse me, I'm drooling.
Stick around long enough for me to get the frying pan warmed up, and I WILL make a chocolate bacon lover out of you.
Happy eating!
