Before we homeschooled, my oldest son came home from class one day telling me about Valentine's Day. ‘Kids give each other candy!' he exclaimed, “And we're putting ours in a valentine holder at our desks.
I couldn't help but wonder if this valentine and valentine holder information came from his teachers…or a crush trying to assure they were top of the valentines list.
Leave it to mom to be suspicious, huh?
He insisted that we practice making valentines. Then, we needed to come up with our own valentine holder. This milk jug valentine holder was the result.
DIY Valentine Holder with a Milk Jug
For your valentine holder, start with some red acrylic paint and a clean milk jug. You'll need white acrylic paint for an accent to finish it later.
Squirt a good dollop of paint into the milk jug.
Cap it and shake, shake, shake it like a Polaroid picture. You'll want to add a bit of water in there to make sure the paint gets ALL over, into every nook and cranny.
Turn it upside down in an egg carton to dry for a few days.
Have your kid draw a heart on the outside of the valentine holder for that personal touch.
Then, cut the heart out with craft scissors and dab around the edges with some white acrylic paint.
Let it dry and tie a ribbon around the handle to hang it somewhere and tell the world you are ready for ALL the valentines!
Hint, hint.
I think this valentine holder would look really precious tied from the desks of a whole classroom full of students. They're so easy to make, the supplies are practically free, and the fact that the kids can do almost the whole thing themselves is a major bonus.
Share this milk jug valentine holder with a teacher friend or pin it for later!
