It would seem that we are embracing this whole kindergarten thing head-on. Because I have SO much time on my hands what with being almost 8 months pregnant and all, I volunteered our family to make the Box Tops box for collection in our classroom!
I simply can't resist a good craft opportunity.
We're working with Sam's Club (our go-to spot for back-to-school shopping) and they have an awesome deal going with Box Tops. When you buy 3 participating club-sized General Mills Box Tops products, you can get an extra 100 eBoxTops for your school. You can earn 100 extra for every set of 3 you buy all the way up to 12 items.
To help get the discussion going and get the kids excited about the whole endeavor, we created a Box Tops box using an old wooden puzzle holder. Melissa & Doug puzzles often come in boxes like this, or you can buy sliding lid boxes at a craft store or even use a nesting box with a sliding front.
We added a little handle to ours and drilled a slot on top for the kids to drop in their Box Tops.
When we're ready to collect them, we just take the hanging box off the wall and slide the lid up!
Decoration was easy and hands-on for the kindergartener. We simply painted the box and added a hang tag with stickers. On each side, we put two wooden labels with Box Tops information that we cut from the participating products we bought. That way, the purpose of our Box Tops box is easy to identify to people who aren't familiar with the process.
Each Box Top is worth $.10 for your school, and the participating club size General Mills products at Sam's Club right now have 8 Box Tops on each of them! Combine that with the 100 eBoxTops and we're looking at over $12 donated to our school just for stocking up on some lunch items and preggo cravings.
Our Sam's Club store made it easy to earn and redeem eBoxTops with tons of signage walking us through the process. Purchase at least 3 participating products between 8/16 – 11/16, then email your receipt to [email protected] for validation. They'll send you a unique code to enter on samsclub.com/boxtops to assign your eBoxTops to your school.
I helped Some Boy through the computer process, and he was stoked to take the Box Tops box to his teacher for extra credit. Okay, I guess “extra credit” isn't a thing in kindergarten but if it we were would be RACKING UP THE POINTS here. Can you tell I'm a little bit competitive?
I think we're getting the hang of this elementary thing.
