Candied Bacon Makes Everything Better

| | Updated:

A little candied bacon can go a LONG way in boosting any recipe, from a Moscow Mule to pancakes, salad and more.

As Valentine's Day approaches, I see people getting amped-up about what to do for their significant other or for their gal pals (Galentine's Day, anyone?). RELAX. Keep it simple. This holiday is about expressing love, in all its beautiful forms. You don't have to implement some grand gesture. A simple thing like candied bacon can add the perfect amount of sweetness to your day – and put a smile on your loved one's face.

Truvia with bacon

We're working with our sponsor Truvia® to show how you can use the Truvia Brown Sugar Blend to sweeten up just about any moment. Nate and I don't typically like to go out on busy holidays, so instead we opt to stay in and make a special dish, do a fun activity together at home or pick a new movie to screen for the family.

Valentine's Day doesn't have to be an over-the-top ordeal. Add a little sweetness to the usual routine of any normal day, and suddenly it feels special and meaningful. The same applies to this recipe! Add a little candied bacon to just about any meal or sweet treat, and you have a moment worth savoring.

Truvia Brown Sugar Blend is refreshingly uncomplicated, just like our Valentine’s Day routine. It has 75% fewer calories than traditional brown sugar and only half a cup provides the same sweetness as one cup of traditional brown sugar. It also has the same texture as brown sugar, making it the ideal solution for candied bacon with maple-y undertones.

How to Make and use Candied Bacon

Low carb candied bacon

One big callout for candied bacon is to make sure you cook it on racks – NOT directly on the foil. You need the space for the Truvia Brown Sugar Blend to melt and drip off. Air circulation needs to pass around the bacon to help it crisp, otherwise the direct contact between the bacon and the foil will cause it to char.

Once cooked to perfection, simply cut your candied bacon into bits with kitchen shears and toss it onto a salad, a pizza, some crackers with cheese…whatever you're in the mood for! You can even lay it deftly over a drink for a sweet, salty decoration that goes down smoothly.
