Medicine Cabinet Organization Hack

| | Updated:

I'm basically as big as a house now and in FULL-BLOWN nesting mode as we count down the few weeks left until baby shows up. Every nook and cranny of our home is getting re-organized (our snack station is still going strong) and re-done in preparation. This week's project? Medicine cabinet organization.

I think a well-arranged house is definitely the key to handling a big family. Once you find your household groove, it's really just a matter of staying stocked up and keeping on top of laundry and dishes. The more organized the space is, the more easily we can see what needs to be dealt with! Our laundry room, though, with its immense cabinets and general “out of sight / out of mind” status has definitely become the go-to area where we dump all the things to deal with later. Medicine cabinet organization is just the first on our list of resets taking place in this room.

We do an annual medicine cabinet organization and clean-out every fall leading into cold and flu season (and in this case, baby-having season!). When I opened my medicine cabinet last week I was immediately whacked in the head with a couple falling bottles. This is definitely NOT what I want to deal with when I have a couple sick kiddos sneezing on the couch.

The solution that we decided to put into play for our medicine cabinet organization is a simple pull-down spice rack. I recently saw a friend using one of these in her own home. What, like you don't snoop on your pals' bathroom cabinets? Puh-lease. I asked her what kind of genius sorcery this was, and she showed me how it helps corral all those little bottles into a nice, neat space.

As you can see, we added a couple shims on the side so ours could clear the cabinet lever but other than that, it was a quick ten-minute installation. Now we can pull down all our most-used medicines for easy access, and when we're done it tucks back up into a totally-organized area!

While I was getting everything cleared out, I went ahead and ditched our old, expired or questionable bottles and re-stocked with our partner CVS Pharmacy. I use my CVS ExtraCare Rewards card to save a ton, on top of the already phenomenal pricing on CVS-branded items.

Now I can rest easy knowing I have one more area of my life prepared for the unpredictable future with four little boys!
