Looking to make your holiday meal shopping a little easier? Check out this Thanksgiving food list, including all the essentials like turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. Extra mega perk: you can get it all FREE! Yup. Seriously.
Last year, a friend shared a similar Thanksgiving food list and how I could get it for free. I was skeptical. I'd tried various “rebate” programs in the past that were more work than they were worth, but I gave it a shot.
You guys. This app wound up being my favorite thing ever!
I now use the app every single week, and I'm proud to be able to partner with the company to talk about my experience and share how YOU can get your entire Thanksgiving food list for free, too.
The App That Basically Gives you Free Food
Ibotta describes itself as “a free cash back rewards app that gives you real cash for everyday purchases when you shop with the app and browser extension.” Ibotta partners with brands that offer incredible deals to get users to try their food. I frequently see deals that reward as much as 100% of the purchase price, as well as tons of rewards equivalent to BOGO (buy one get one) and half-off deals.
Rewards come in the form of cash back to your account after you make a purchase. Purchases can be tracked directly online or through the app when you click through Ibotta to shop at brand sites or grocery store websites, or you can upload a photo of your receipt for stores that don't automatically track purchases.
How to Use Ibotta
Here is my personal process:
- Once per week, when I'm meal planning, I login to Ibotta either on the phone app or through their website.
- I browse available offers, and add them to my account.
- I click over from Ibotta to my favorite local stores (usually Walmart, Albertsons, or CVS) and buy the items, scheduling pickup or delivery.
Above, you can see what the deals look like in the app. The checkmark appears once you've added the deal to your account – before that it shows as a little “plus” sign.
Your rewards will appear in your account, and you can easily withdraw them straight to your bank account or turn them into gift cards. I love discovering new snacks through Ibotta, and have found that it's a phenomenal way to keep kids' lunch boxes varied with fun surprises every day. They had a really phenomenal back to school promotion with tons of free supplies this fall, too!
FREE Thanksgiving Food List at Walmart
Thanksgiving is Ibotta's BIGGEST deal extravaganza of the year. They have a massive Thanksgiving food list that you can get 100% cash back on, including potatoes, stuffing and more when you shop at Walmart! This year's bundle is bigger and better than last year's, with more sides and a larger turkey. New users get a full bundle of sides, plus a turkey for free. Existing users can unlock the turkey just by referring a friend.
- The full list of FREE Thanksgiving food from Ibotta includes:
- Frozen Whole Turkey (select brands, minimum weight 3 lb.)
- Idahoan Family Size Mashed Potatoes
- McCormick Gravy Packet
- These ingredients, perfect for Green Bean Casserole!
- Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup
- Birdseye Frozen Vegetables
- 2 Liter Coca Cola
- Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
With that, you have just about your entire Thanksgiving food list taken care of. They also had a cranberry sauce deal, stuffing, and french fried onions that everyone swooped up real quick, so I'd personally add that and the other items below to your list of extras to buy if you want a full Thanksgiving spread. Goes to show how important it is to hop on these deals, while supplies last!
- Thanksgiving food list extras you may want to add to round out the Thanskgiving menu:
- Cranberry sauce
- Stuffing
- French fried onions
- Pumpkin pie
- Thanksgiving appetizers, such as chips or veggies and dip
- Family favorites, such as sweet potato casserole or brussels sprouts
- Pumpkin pie
- Pecan pie
I already arranged my online grocery delivery order and filled my freezer, pantry and fridge, so I'm ready for Thanksgiving dinner! I can't wait to whip up a roast turkey, some Thanksgiving side dishes and a pie or two.
It's such a great feeling to have that taken care of. To have it taken care of for absolutely zero dollars is… well…. priceless.
