Tuna on its own is paleo, obviously. Tuna usually requires a little dressing up, though. Here is the best way to serve paleo tuna – without a bunch of unhealthy ingredients.
When I initially went paleo awhile back, I was seriously sad about missing out on my regular tuna salad sandwich lunches. Bread was out of the question, as was mayo, and I had to relearn how to healthfully cook the things I love. I'm so glad I did it, though, because I've discovered a whole new menu of delicious items! Healthy entrees like No Mayo Tuna Salad and Paleo Tuna Bell Peppers now make up my everyday meals. I'm focused on natural foods that help my body thrive and I've really stepped my cuisine up a notch in a way that makes me proud. Here are a couple of my new favorite ways to prepare paleo tuna.
Paleo Tuna-o!
Paleo Tuna Bell Peppers and No Mayo Tuna Salad
Here are a couple of my new favorite ways to prepare paleo tuna.
Ingredients
- 3 cans Ocean Naturals tuna, drained
- 1 sweet yellow onion, diced
- 1/4 white onion, diced
- 2 Tbsp dried basil
- 2 Tbsp dried red chili
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1/8 cup lemon juice
- 1/8 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 4 bell peppers, assorted colors
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Saute the onion over medium-high until they're soft, translucent and beginning to brown. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Mix onions with tuna, basil, lemon juice and olive oil.
- For paleo tuna bell peppers, slice bell peppers in half lengthwise, remove seeds and membranes and fill with no mayo tuna mixture before serving as-is or baking for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.

A combination of sweet and sharp onion flavors take these paleo tuna recipes up a notch.
Plenty of lemon gives this paleo tuna dish a mediterranean-style flavor, but you can easily swap the spices out for something more mustardy or even opt for a curry flavor.
When I buy canned food, I'm typically looking for the really good stuff. I don't want some weird unidentified meat concoction. I love Ocean Naturals tuna because it's responsibly caught with no fillers, and I can truly taste the difference in the color and texture. I can even enter a code from my can on the Ocean Naturals website to find out exactly where in the world my tuna came from. “No “chunk light” stuff here, I'm looking for the real deal! It's good, good for me and good for the planet.
You can eat the paleo tuna salad on its own or – if you're looking for a fast and satisfying crunch – hollow out a bell pepper to make this a grab-and-go healthy lunch.
Delicious served hot or cold, this is now one of my go-to easy meals!
Do you avoid mayo and carbs? What's your favorite way to enjoy paleo tuna?
Chelsea- I was just checking out your blog after meeting with you at TMS Family Trav in Niagara. WOW! Wish I would’ve known you had Paleo recipes. Give me more, give me more! 🙂 It’s really hard to stick to a paleo diet while traveling so often so I would love to read more about it. Have a great day!
This looks fabulous, I love the recipe and I love that you served it in the gorgeous bell peppers. Yum!
Chelsea, this looks awesome. I don’t know much about the Paleo diet and now I’m intrigued. I know that my body also thrives when I take the time to prepare healthy food. I really love the pairing of your healthy tuna salad inside the peppers — would make a great lunch at our house, too! #client
Looks delicious! Thanks for your participation in this campaign! #client
