wandering the aisles of target

After I had kids, Target started calling to me like a homing beacon. I can vividly recall wandering the aisles on my very first public outing with Some Boy. Glossy eyes, unwashed hair. “Thank God I can get binkies, food, home decor and a new shirt at the same time!” I beamed, delicately balancing my two-week-old. The stores always have enough registers open, people are friendly, everything's clean. I swear, I could write a love song dedicated to that place. Target became my one-stop-shop to get in, get what I need, and move the heck on with day!

Then we had Sidekick, and his birth prompted a closer look at our health as a family. He had some food sensitivities that led to us cutting out gluten and sugar, limiting dairy and buying primarily organic food. I had to go to the specialty stores to pick up paleo groceries. I LOVE getting paleo groceries at those specialty stores on occasion, but making multiple trips with a toddler and a baby is a hassle. At traditional stores I felt ostracized as a “picky parent,” like I was suddenly outside of the mainstream. I saw many families making the transition towards healthier eating and paleo groceries as our own lifestyle changed, and I knew that this was more than a fad. It was a new generation of fun-loving parents coming into their own and prioritizing their health for the sake of their future.

I was ecstatic to see Target start prioritizing the needs of this demographic of shoppers, bringing in organic foods and removing genetically-modified products from their own lines. Their products are completely free of artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors, preservatives and high fructose corn syrup and many of them are certified organic. Target has once again become my one-stop-shop for stocking up our household, whether I need paleo groceries or diapers or a new outfit. Thank God. Because I really couldn't load and unload that car seat one more time.

Here are my favorite paleo groceries to pick up when I'm there:

So now when I need to snag paleo groceries like berries for anything from homemade baby food to breakfast staples or a hearty dinner, I know exactly where to turn.
